Ben Okri

Wednesday – Ben Okri talk on ‘The Age of Magic’: The burgeoning ArchWay With Words literary festival have booked some humdingers and this evening’s speaker shows that they’re attracting some really literary heavyweights.  Ben Okri is considered one of the foremost African authors in the post-modern and post-colonial traditions and has been compared favourably to authors such as Salman Rushdie and Gabriel García Márquez.  Okri’s writing challenges the conventions of what may be expected of a novel, using the literary form he calls ‘fictive philosophy’. Come and hear from the creator of this hypnotically beautiful book.  £6.50 http://www.frugl.com/events/benokri-age-magic-winner-man-booker-prize-presents-latest-novel/

Thursday – Sample Sale: This one’s free to get in, but not necessarily free to get out. With the winter weather on its way it’s time to make sure you get yourself some sexy wellies.  None of that bland green farmer’s nonsense, make sure you have the finest attired pins in town, even when the weather’s terrible.  Some designs are as cheap as a fiver, so you can look like Kate Moss at a festival without giving your bank manager the night sweats.  FREE http://www.frugl.com/events/hunters-boots-sample-sale-2015-10-15/

Bob smith

Friday – William Morris Gallery: Head up to AwesomeStow to see this important, cheeky and enlivening display by Bob and Roberta Smith cataloguing their campaign against austerity and to ensure that art is at the centre of our nation’s entertaining.  Don’t worry, it’s nowhere near as poe-faced as that makes it sound.  They’ve both got a daft sense of humour which makes their political art fizz with fun energy.
